David Grossman : Travel Writer

About David Grossman

My life as a frequent business traveler has spanned four decades.   In that time I have seen the airline industry deregulated and many changes that have greatly impacted the lives of business and leisure travelers alike.

I also worked in the airline industry for 11 years where I helped implement the consumer online reservations systems now used by millions of travelers to find low air fares on the Internet.   I served as the director of electronic commerce for US Airways prior to 9/11/01, where I managed Internet ticket sales and the airline's web site.   I also worked for Galileo International, a global computerized reservations system used by thousands of travel agencies to book travel for their customers.   At Galileo International, I helped develop consumer online reservations systems for a number of airlines, including United Airlines, Air Canada, and British Airways.

Prior to my stint in the airline industry, I worked in electronic publishing for mapmaker, Rand McNally, and the publisher of Who's Who in America.   In both cases I converted printed publications into electronic databases for online access.   With Rand McNally I also led a project to record all of the mileages and routes for all of the railroads in the U.S. and Canada.

My Business Traveler column on USA Today.com has also been reprinted on ABC News.com and I have been a regular contributor to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Airlines International magazine. I have also written for the Boston Herald, the ACTE Global Business Journal, ASTANetwork Magazine, InsideFlyer, the NBTA Newsletter, and the print edition of USA Today. I have also been a guest on "The Travel Planners", "Tilley Talks Travel", "The Travel Show with Arthur and Pauline Frommer", "The Trip Chicks" and WILL's "Focus 580" radio programs and have appeared on "Your Morning", a cable television news show broadcast to homes from Maine to Virginia. I have also been a guest speaker at numerous regional and local business travel association meetings discussing the outlook for business travel and current issues in commercial aviation.

Over the course of my career as a business traveler, journalist, and an airline executive, I have visited more than 40 countries and all 50 states.

I earned an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Northwestern University, and a Masters in Library/Information Science and a Bachelors Degree in Journalism from the University of Michigan.

I originally grew up in New York City and have lived in Chicago, Michigan, and Washington, DC.   I currently reside in the San Francisco Bay area.   Please feel free to drop me a note or post a comment on my Flight Diversions blog.
